ABOUT HABIBASART
I’m Habiba, I started an art account when I was 14 posting fast unfinished sketches for fun for my 10 followers at the time, not taking art or my Instagram account too seriously. Now, I make process videos, paintings much bigger than I used to, and post them every time I finish a new one.
Towards the end of 2020, I started university and was stressing about exams. It was online and I didn’t have everything figured out yet as a freshman. I had an empty canvas lying around and splashed green paint onto the canvas making the biggest mess, which turned out to be my very first painting in the series of artwork I’ve made until now; the painting is called “vandalism guitar” and means the most to me. It’s funny to think that a silly moment during exams, splashing paint just so I don’t study would ignite such a spark making me fall in love with painting all over again. Gradually, I started taking art more seriously and enjoying every moment of it, each and every painting has a story or memory.
Moreover, I always loved art as a child, painting stick figures on the walls of my room as a rebellious act; just to see my parents' faces when they come back from work trying to find where I’ve hidden the next stick figure. I wasn’t supposed to draw on walls so I always made them so tiny, ironically now I have so much art in my room, handprints on the wall including those of my parents, who wanted me to have a clean tidy room; but you can tell how that went. I never would have thought I would do so much with art, messing up and trying again and always trying to enjoy the process along the way. Since then, art has become a huge part of my life. Now, I wish to make a career through art, through painting.
Through my art I hope to inspire others to create and not be afraid to mess up. The process and messing up is a big part of art because you can just cover it up or even use this mess and start over again, creating something new. There doesn’t have to be rules in art but enjoying it and expressing yourself, and most important always start with a splash :)
